Care & Maintenance

  • The Siena® Folding Arm Awning is made up of a variety of components including cast and extruded aluminium, PVC and nylon. Each of these products have been engineered for external use with basic care and maintenance. (The awning should also have an outdoor rated fabric fitted which will have its own care and maintenance program. Refer to your retail awning dealer for this detail.)
  • Any maintenance and cleaning must be performed when the awning is at rest with any power supply disconnected.
  • As a rule, Siena® Folding Arm Awnings will perform better when used regularly. Should you use infrequently, you may find that the fabric may show pressure marks from being rolled up on the tube and may need time to re-settle.
  • To operate at its best, Siena® Folding Arm Awnings need to be clean and free of debris. It is recommended to periodically remove any dirt or soiling to the underside of from the arms and brackets with any exposed hardware wiped down with a soft brush or clean cloth. Never use abrasive sponges or solvent type cleaners (turps, kerosene, paint thinners) on componentry or Powder Coated surfaces. Using such agents will void the warranty.
  • The awning has a water drain function designed in the front rail extrusion that collects water which is then ejected at each side of the front rail. Periodically checking the groove and cleaning any residue from the channel or side will ensure that moisture will continue to flow as required.
  • Once a year before summer, open the awning half-way and lubricate all moving parts (3 moving parts of arms – front bar connection, elbow where chain is exposed and arm to square bar connection and idler end connection with PVC bush) with a proprietary silicone spray. (Use in accordance with the silicone spray supplier’s recommendations, which includes testing a small inconspicuous area first to ensure no detrimental side effects.)
  • Every 2 years the Siena® Folding Arm Awning must be serviced by the dealer who installed it originally or a similar experienced awning technician. Failure to do so will void the warranty.

General Precautions

  • Folding Arm Awnings are opened and closed either manually or with a power unit.
  • In all cases they should not be operated by children.
  • Do not stand under or too close when opening and closing awning.
  • Do not impede the operation or place objects on awning. Entrapment risks exist on fingers and arms getting caught when operating the awning.
  • The awning has a recommended minimum install height of 2500mm.
  • Do not climb onto, hang from or place anything on the arms, rail, brackets, or any part of the awning system. Serious risk of personal injury or damage to the awning can result and will void all warranty.
  • If the product is altered, tampered with, or modified in any way without the manufacturer’s express permission, the warranty is null and void.
  • The user must immediately report any fault or malfunction observed on any moving part, safety device, f ixture or fitting.

Extreme Weather

  • Siena® Folding Arm Awnings are designed to be operated in still or very moderate winds.
  • All Siena® Folding Arm Awnings should be immediately retracted in the event of a storm or high wind environment.
  • It should always be fully retracted in heavy rain events and never operated during such weather events as it can cause damage to property and persons. Operating the awning during defined weather events will void the warranty.
  • It is highly recommended to motorise your Folding Arm Awning so it can be fitted with motion and wind sensors to help automate the awning and offer some additional protection with retraction during windy periods.

Safety Devices

  • All safety devices are an aid only and are no guarantee against damage as awnings take up to 40 seconds to retract once triggered.
  • Wind Sensors or Motion Sensors (optional) are designed to activate under windy conditions and close your awning automatically. The activation levels are set at time of install by qualified technicians as per the relevant device manual.
  • Rain Sensors (optional) are set to activate in heavy rain events. They will automatically close an awning after a set amount of rain is detected. The activation levels are set at time of install by qualified technicians as per the relevant device manual.
  • Manual Override (optional) is recommended for power failure events. It allows an emergency close of the awning via a crank handle. Check with your dealer on when this may be required
  • Any operating wall switches should be fitted in a dry area away from direct sunlight. They shall be secured at a safe minimum height from the ground and out of reach of unauthorised users. Remote controls should be kept out of reach of children.
