How to Get the Most Out of Your Roof to Fence Blinds

Roof to Fence Blindsv are a popular outdoor solution designed to provide privacy, sun protection, and weather resistance in side areas and between homes and fences.

These blinds are a variation of our Crank and Clip Blinds, installed on an angle from the roof to the fence line. Made from durable materials like Visiontex® Mesh, these blinds are built for West Australian conditions. To keep your blinds in top shape and working effectively, it’s important to follow these care, maintenance, and usage guidelines.

General Use Guidelines

Retract During Strong Winds and Storms

Roof to Fence Blinds are built for regular weather conditions but should always be retracted during strong winds, storms, or heavy rainfall. Leaving blinds extended during extreme weather may result in damage to the mesh, frame, or fittings.

Retract When Not in Use

To reduce unnecessary wear and tear, retract your Roof to Fence Blinds when they’re not needed - especially overnight or during extended periods of disuse. This limits their exposure to wind, rain, and UV radiation.

Preventing Damage: Over-Cranking and Routine Checks

Don’t Over-Crank

These blinds use a crank handle for manual operation, giving you strong leverage to tension the fabric. Do not over-crank the blind once it is firmly tensioned. Over-tightening can:

Strain or warp the gearbox mechanism
Damage or stretch the Visiontex® mesh
Pull fixings loose from their mountings

Stop cranking once the blind is taut and held securely in place. Excess pressure may result in alignment issues or premature hardware failure.

Perform Annual Inspections

Every year, take time to inspect and maintain your system:

Check wall fixings, fence anchors, and base clips
Tighten any loose fittings
Look for wear or fraying around stress points
Lubricate the crank handle and moving parts with silicone-based spray (avoid oil-based lubricants)

Routine checks ensure your blinds remain secure and operate smoothly.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Roof to Fence Blinds are constructed using Visiontex® Mesh – a UV-resistant, anti-fungal, and fire-rated material that requires only simple maintenance.

Regular Cleaning

Brush down both sides using a soft-bristle broom or cloth
Rinse periodically with cold, clean water
Avoid detergent, soap, and harsh chemical cleaners

For Mould or Mildew

Mix 1 part diluted bleach with 20 parts lukewarm water
Test on a small, hidden area first
Clean using a soft cloth or sponge
Rinse thoroughly

Removing Stains or Marks

Mix 1 part mild household detergent with 20 parts lukewarm water
Gently scrub using a soft cloth or sponge
Rinse thoroughly with fresh water to remove all residue

Seasonal Usage Tips

Summer

Keep blinds extended during the day to reduce heat entering the home
Rinse off salt build-up if you're near the coast

Winter

Retract blinds when not in use to prevent moisture exposure
Always allow the mesh to dry before rolling up to avoid mould

Just a brilliant service from start to finish, the blinds are beyond what we hoped for and our whole alfresco has been transformed into a room we love.  I had ziptrack blinds to 2 sides with the remote control (which I very highly recommend) with aluminum plantation blinds to 2 inlets.. These were the only guys who could do both types of blinds, other companies who quoted us were more expensive and just offered to recommend someone else to do the plantation blinds.
