Ziptrak® Outdoor Blinds are proven to be tough! In tests conducted by TÜV SÜD PSD, on a 2m wide by 2m high Ziptrak® PanoView® blind, the blind was shown to withstand static wind loads equivalent to wind speeds of 260km/hr!
Now, we’re not saying to go out and try that (and your warranty won’t cover that sort of use); however, these blinds have been pushed to their limits and shown to perform.
As a blind size increases the sail area increases and the greater force a wind can have on the blind and supporting structure so it is important to know what to do when the wind picks up and where to leave your blinds.

Ultimately these robust systems are not just about providing an enjoyable outdoor living space but also about standing strong in the face of challenging weather conditions.
Here are some important points about their wind tolerance and usage:
- Wind Resistance: The blinds are specifically designed to handle strong winds. The secure locking mechanism holds the blind in place within the tracks, ensuring minimal movement and reducing the risk of damage. However, it’s important to note that the blinds should be either fully lowered and locked or fully retracted in windy conditions. The halfway position is the most vulnerable. During very strong winds, storms, or severe weather events, the blinds should be fully retracted.
- Durability: Ziptrak® blinds are constructed with high-quality materials, including strong aluminium tracks and marine-grade stainless steel components, making them resistant to corrosion and wear from coastal conditions.
- Operation in Windy Conditions: Ideally, the blinds should be up or down prior to strong winds. Ziptrak® spring-balanced blinds can be tricky to operate in windy conditions due to the pressure of the wind on the blind material. To ease this, use your hand to push against the blind material, reducing the pressure before operating the blind. Motorised Ziptrak® blinds should be supervised at all times while raising and lowering during windy conditions to ensure safe operation.
- Installation: We cannot stress enough the importance of proper installation for optimal performance. A well-installed blind will provide a snug fit, enhancing its ability to withstand high winds. To ensure your investment is secure, it’s highly recommended to have a professional install your blinds to ensure they are set up correctly.
