Installed in: Hillarys, 6025
This Hillarys home is made for summer, with a covered patio opening onto a limestone terrace and a lap pool running alongside. The patio roof only reached so far, though, and the terrace between the house and the pool was left in full sun for most of the day. It was too hot to sit out on and too bright to enjoy the water.
A Siena® Full Cassette Folding Arm Awning now extends out from the edge of the patio over the terrace. At over 5.1m wide with a 3m projection, it adds a generous band of shade right where it’s needed. To carry an awning of this size, a new 150×50 beam was installed along the patio edge, and the awning is fixed with four 22° rafter brackets for a solid, long-lasting mount.
The awning runs on a Linx® awning motor and can be operated from a wall switch or remote, with the electrical work included. A motion sensor automatically retracts the awning if the wind gets up, so there’s no need to keep an eye on it. When it’s retracted, the fabric and arms tuck fully into the Ivory cassette, protected from the weather and looking clean against the roofline. The fabric is Visiontex® mesh, which keeps the shade cool and breathable while still letting soft light through.
A folding arm awning is one of the best ways to shade a pool area. It gives shade on demand, folds away completely when the sun is wanted, and doesn’t get in the way of the pool or the view. For this family, the terrace is now a comfortable place to relax between swims.
For a poolside terrace like this one, a Siena® Folding Arm Awning can help:
- Extend shade well beyond the existing patio roof
- Retract fully at the push of a button when the sun is wanted
- Automatically pull itself in when the wind picks up
- Protect the fabric and arms inside a full cassette when closed
- Keep outdoor furniture and the terrace cooler through summer
- Leave the pool and the view completely uncluttered
